This invention relates to a polyvinyl alcohol type polarizing film or plate which comprises a water-soluble dye having the formula (1) in a free acid form or a copper complex salt thereof. The said polarizing plate has excellent polarizing performance capability and durability, and is suitably used for the green channel of a liquid crystal projector when B in formula (1) is a benzoylamino group and the water-soluble dye has awave length for maximum absorption (.lambda. max) of 520 nm or more and less than 580nm. (See Formula 1)

Cette invention concerne un support polarisant film ou plaque - à base d'alcool polyvinylique comprenant une teinture hydrosoluble de formule (I) sous forme d'acide libre ou d'un sel de complexe de cuivre. Le polariseur possède des propriétés polarisantes et une durabilité remarquables et convient bien pour le canal vert d'un projecteur à cristaux liquides lorsque B de la formule (I) est un groupe benzoylamino et que la teinture hydrosolube possède une longueur d'onde pour absorption maximum (.lambda.max) de 520 nm ou plus et de moins de 580 nm.
