ABSTRACT Cationic dyes The invention relates to cationic dyes. The cationic dyes of the invention have the following general formula:- Image I where R1 is unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, T is hydro- gen or alkyl, n is 1, 2 or 3, A? is an equivalent of an anion and X is an aminoaryl radical which may or may not possess one or more further substituents on the amino and/or aryl moiety, and where the benzene nucleus a may optionally be substitu- ted by alkyl, alkoxy, chlorine, bromine, amino alkylamino, di- alkylamino, alkanoylamino or nitro. The compounds of the formula I are yellow to orange and may be used as basic dyes for dyeing textiles of anionically modified fibers, but especially for dyeing paper. They may also be used for leather, tannin-treated cotton, writing fluids, print pastes, silk, cellulose acetate and lignin-containing fibers.
