ABSTRACT An internal combustion engine (100) has a cylinder (1) with a first axis (z-z), a piston housing (2) therein and connected to a yoke housing (3) having a sliding block tl2) within a slot in the yoke (3) which slot is curved about a center of curvature (200) with the concave side of the slot facing away from the combustion chamber and offset (.alpha.) from the vertical axis (z-z) of the combustion chamber, the curve's radius being such as to provide a power stroke having a time period which exceeds the time period of a compression stroke.
