Disclosed is a dynamic damper which is to absorb building vibrations in any horizontal directions, not restric- ted to one direction. For example, it comprises an oscil- lating body which is held to move horizontally, a plurality of ball screws which are arranged perpendicularly to each other with a height difference among them and which have a nut por- tion on the side of the oscillating body and a screw shaft en- gaging with said nut portion, and motors which reciprocate the oscillating body according to the period of vibration of the building by turning the ball screws. Also, a method is dis- closed for detecting malfunction of a dynamic damper which utilizes the correlation Rx y between the acceleration of velocity or displacement of a building.
