A dynamo-electric machine which can function as a motor or a generator. The machine comprising a stator and an armature (80), and switching of the armature coils (c1-c7) is accomplished by means of a switching control assembly which is mounted to, and rotates with, the armature. In operation as a motor, direct current is supplied through brushes to slip rings (68, 70) that rotate with the armature, and the DC current supplied is first passed through switch means (92) in the control assembly to deliver the current in properly timed relationship with respect to the rotation of the rotor. This provides greater versatility in the operation of the motor/generator and eliminates many of the problems related to the use of conventional brush commutation commonly used in present day DC motors and generators.
Une machine dynamoélectrique, pouvant fonctionner comme moteur ou comme générateur, comprend un stator et une armature (80). La commutation des bobines (C1-C7) d'armature se fait au moyen d'un ensemble de commande de la commutation, qui est fixé sur l'armature et tourne avec elle. Quand la machine fonctionne comme moteur, un courant continu est amené par des balais à des bagues collectrices (68, 70) qui tournent avec l'armature, et le courant continu amené traverse d'abord un système de commutation (92) disposé dans l'ensemble de commande, de façon à fournir le courant dans un temps approprié par rapport à la rotation du rotor. Ce procédé donne une plus grande souplesse d'emploi au fonctionnement du moteur/générateur et élimine de nombreux problèmes liés à l'emploi de la commutation par balais couramment utilisée dans les moteurs et générateurs à courant continu actuels.
