ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to a method, an apparatus and an article for piercing tissue especially human ear tissue. A thermoplastic sleeve having a boss on one end is forced through the tissue into contact with a heating mem- ber which melts the thermoplastic thus forming a boss on the other end of the sleeve. The sleeve-is retained in the tissue and may be used as a pivot or support for an article of jewellery.
