The invention relates to an applicator for use on livestock such as cattle, sheep, deer and the like. A driving means (14) com- prising a five sided body portion and elongate tag engagement (16) means to which an ear tag can be attached which are pivotally connected to the upper jaw member (5). There is also provided a biasing means (12) which is in constant contact with one side of the body portion and is used in conjunction with a restraining means (7) to ensure that the tag engagement means (16) is main- tained in a downwardly pointing "cocked" position during application of an ear tag. Upon insertion of the ear tag through the animal's ear, the tag engagement means (16) can be pivoted into a second "spent" position to facilitate easy detachment of the applicator from the ear tag.
