-16- ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An earth leakage current breaker for use with an alternating supply has current transformer means coupled to both the live and neutral lines of a two-phase supply or to all three phases and the neutral of a three-phase supply and arranged to provide an analogue output representative of the leakage current. This output is pulse sampled, typically 8 times in each supply cycle and a comparator determines if samples exceed a predetermined limit. The output signals from the comparator are counted and a circuit breaker is opened if the count in a predetermined period, e.g. each half cycle, exceeds a predetermined number, e.g. 2.
