A can end (1) is formed with a score (3) by pressing the end between a score die (2) and an anvil (13). The score die comprises a truncated "V"-shaped projection (9) having a first score sidewall (10) typically at about 55~ to the longitudinal axis of the projection, and a second score sidewall (11) typically at about 15~ to the longitudinal axis. The score die has a horizontal land portion (12) between the first and second sidewalls. The score die produces a score (3) having sidewalls (16 and 17) which are at different angles to the longitudinal, and this helps to prevent the formation of "angel hairs", i.e. thin slivers of the film (23) coating the base of the score which can otherwise become detached on operation of the tear panel (15).

Extrémité (1) de boîte métallique comportant une découpe d'ouverture (3) pratiquée par compression de ladite extrémité entre une matrice (2) et une butée (13). Cette matrice est composée d'une saillie (9) en forme de V tronqué possédant une première paroi latérale de découpe (10) normalement à environ 55· par rapport à l'axe de la longueur de la saillie et une deuxième paroi latérale de découpe (11) normalement à environ 15· par rapport à l'axe de la longueur. Cette matrice présente une partie plate horizontale (12) entre la première et la deuxième parois latérales. Cette matrice produit une découpe (3) présentant des parois latérales (16) et (17) situées à des angles différents par rapport à la longueur, ceci contribuant à empêcher la formation de "cheveux d'ange", c'est-à-dire de fines lanières de la pellicule (23) revêtant la base de la découpe, qui peuvent se détacher lorsqu'on tire sur le panneau à déchirer (15).
