Abstract of the Disclosure An eddy current speed reducer particularly of the type that develops relatively low braking torques. The eddy current speed reducer has a stator which comprises a ring of coils the axes of which are parallel to the axes of the speed reducer. The speed reducer also includes a rotor consisting of two discs framing the stator. A support for the coils is formed by a non-magnetic closed annular housing containing the windings of these coils and formed from two half-shells clamped axially one against the other by screwing flared pole pieces on the cores of the coils. The cores passing jointingly through open- ings in the housing.
