EDDY CURRENT TOUCH SENSOR ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An eddy current type sensing device for sensing displacement from an eddy current sensor, mounted in a holder, and having a cap actuator mounted for movement towards and away from the sensing face of the sensor. A spring biases the cap actuator away from the sensing face of the sensor. The actual target presses against the cap actuator and moves the cap actuator towards the sensing face of the sensor. The cap actuator, or at least that part of the cap actuator facing the sensor, is made of a material that is suitable for the eddy current sensor and the material is uniform. The eddy currents are thus induced in the cap actuator, rather than the actual target, so that the displacement readings are not affected by the actual target aspect, configuration, composition or uniformity. The sensing devices are particularly suitable for use with equipment for fuelling or refuelling a nuclear reactor where the axis of the refuelling nozzle must be aligned with the axis of the fuel channel tube.
