A system for inspecting the edges of rolled metal strip, which edges have been trimmed by passing the strip between upper and lower rotary blades, comprises video cameras arranged to image the trimmed edges to provide video signals to an image processing unit which derives from the video information the ratio between the depth of the strip separated by slitting and the depth of the strip separated by shearing. The quality of the edge can be maintained at an acceptable level by maintaining this ratio within predetermined limits.
Système permettant d'inspecter les bords d'une bande de métal laminée, lesdits bords ayant été ébarbés lors du passage de la bande entre des lames rotatives supérieures et inférieures. Ce système comprend des caméras vidéo placées de manière à obtenir des images des bords ébarbés pour envoyer des signaux vidéo à une unité de traitement d'image qui, à partir des données vidéo, donne le rapport existant entre la profondeur de la bande séparée par refendage et la profondeur de la bande séparée par cisaillement. On peut maintenir la qualité du bord à un niveau acceptable en maintenant ce rapport dans des limites prédéterminées.
