An educational device and method of use designed to teach the concept of planned savings to children. More particularly, the educational device is a toy bank that includes a housing with a slot for receiving money and a recording section upon which a child may keep track of the money deposited in the bank, and upon which the child may keep a running total of amounts deposited in the bank. The child may use the toy bank device to save for a particular goal or purpose by identifying on the recording section what it is that he or she is saving for and the total amount of money that is required to save for the particular goal. The child may work together with an adult to determine a savings strategy by identifying things such as how much the child would like to deposit at determined intervals and how many deposits would be required using the determined intervals.
