ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An integrated circuit for a calculator comprises a numerical register for storage of numeral information, a word time signal generator designating the effective digit capacity of the register in response to predetermined digit capacity codes, and external terminals provided on the inte- grated circuit for receiving external signals determinative of a given digit capacity. A digit capacity code generator interconnected between the terminals and the word time signal generator encodes the external signals into the predetermined digit capacity codes and applies the codes to the word time signal generator, which provides a word time signal of a variable pulse width determinative of a desired digit capacity. A control logic interconnected with the numerical register and the word time generator is responsive to the variable pulse width word time signal to vary the digit capacity of the register.
