Aspirin is one of the most widely used drugs in the treatment of inflammation, pain and fever. It has more recently found application in the prevention of heart attacks and stroke and is being studied as a cancer chemopreventative agent. Despite its value aspirin continues to be underutilized because it causes gastric bleeding. The technology under development potentially removes this problem. It is designed to reduce contact between the drug and the intestinal lining. An isosorbide aspirinate prodrug compound is thus provided. The compound has the general structure as shown in general formula (I) wherein Y is a C1-C8 alkyl ester, a C1-C8 alkoxy ester, a C3-C10 cycloalkyl ester, an arylester, a C1-C8 alkylaryl ester or -C(O)OR ring, wherein Ring is a 5-membered aromatic or nonaromatic 5-member ring having at least one heteroatom substituted for a carbon of the ring system, which can be unsubstituted or substituted with at least one nitric oxide releasing group.

L'aspirine est l'un des médicaments les plus utilisés dans le traitement de l'inflammation, de la douleur et de la fièvre. Récemment, elle a plus trouvé application dans la prévention d'attaques cardiaques et d'un accident vasculaire cérébral et elle est encore étudiée comme agent chimiopréventif du cancer. Malgré sa valeur, l'aspirine continue à être sous-utilisée parce qu'elle provoque un saignement gastrique. La technologie en cours de développement élimine de façon potentielle ce problème. Elle est mise au point pour réduire le contact entre le médicament et la muqueuse intestinale. Un composé promédicament aspirinate d'isosorbide est ainsi proposé. Le composé a la structure générale telle que présentée dans la formule générale (I) dans laquelle Y est un (alkyl en C1-C8) ester, un (alcoxy en C1-C8) ester, un (cycloalkyl en C3-C10) ester, un arylester, un (alkyl en C1-C8) alkylester ou -C(O)ORnoyau, où Rnoyau est un noyau à 5 chaînons aromatique on non aromatique ayant au moins un hétéroatome remplaçant un carbone du système de noyau, qui peut être non substitué ou substitué par au moins un groupe libérant de l'oxyde nitrique.
