A system for entering characters from a large character set into a small and portable information appliance such as a mobile telephone. The information appliance includes a touch-pad (10) having a touch-sensitive surface. The touch-pad (10) is used to enter alphanumerical data into the information appliance. The characters can come from small or large character sets. Characters are entered by providing a plurality of character groups. Each group having a head character (30) assigned to a specific region. Selecting a head character (30) enables the user to cycle forwards and backwards through each of the characters within the selected character group. The user selects the desired character by raising a finger from the touch-pad (10) surface when the desired character is found.
L'invention concerne un système servant à introduire des caractères provenant d'un grand jeu de caractères dans un petit dispositif d'informations portable tel qu'un téléphone mobile. Le dispositif d'informations comporte un pavé tactile (10) à surface sensible. Le pavé tactile (10) est utilisé pour introduire des données alphanumériques dans le dispositif d'informations. Les caractères peuvent provenir de petits ou de grands jeux de caractères. Les caractères sont introduits grâce à une pluralité de groupes de caractères. Chaque groupe comporte un caractère (30) de tête affecté à une zone spécifique. La sélection d'un caractère (30) de tête permet à l'utilisateur d'explorer dans un sens ou dans l'autre tous les caractères d'un groupe de caractères sélectionné. L'utilisateur sélectionne le caractère voulu en libérant la surface du pavé tactile (10) de la pression d'un doigt quand il a trouvé le caractère voulu.
