The invention generally relates to management of cryptographic key generations in an information environment comprising a key-producing side generating and distributing key information to a key-consuming side. A basic concept of the invention is to define, by means of a predetermined one-way key derivation function, a relationship between generations of keys such that earlier generations of keys efficiently may be derived from later ones but not the other way around. A basic idea according to the invention is therefore to replace, at key update, key information of an older key generation by the key information of the new key generation on the key-consuming side. Whenever necessary, the key-consuming side iteratively applies the predetermined one- way key derivation function to derive key information of at least one older key generation from the key information of the new key generation. In this way, storage requirements on the key-consuming side can be significantly reduced.

L'invention concerne généralement la gestion de générations de clés cryptographiques dans un environnement d'informations comprenant un côté de production de clés générant et distribuant des informations de clés à un côté de consommation de clés. Un concept de base de cette invention est de définir, au moyen d'une fonction de dérivation de clés univoque prédéterminée, une relation entre des générations de clés telles que des générations antécédentes de clés puissent être efficacement dérivées de générations subséquentes mais pas l'inverse. Une idée de base de cette invention est ainsi de remplacer, au niveau de la mise à jour des clés, des informations de clés d'une génération de clés plus ancienne par des informations de clés d'une nouvelle génération de clés du côté de consommation de clés. Lorsque cela est nécessaire, le côté de consommation de clés applique de façon itérative la fonction de dérivation de clés univoque prédéterminée pour dériver des informations de clés d'au moins une génération de clés plus ancienne à partir des informations de clés de la nouvelle génération de clés. De cette façon, les nécessités de stockage du côté de consommation de clés peuvent être considérablement réduites.
