ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a centrifugal pump system for pumping medium consistency suspensions (such as paper pulp having a consistency of about 6-15 percent (preferably 8-12 percent)), simplified evacuation of gas from the central portion of the pump i 6 provided. The gas outlet extending outwardly from the gas chamber and a central portion of the centrifugal pump is operatively connected to the suction of an ejector. Steam, water, or air is supplied as the operating fluid medium to the ejector, and the evacuated gas and the operating medium are sewered. In the conduit between the ejector and the gas outlet a valve is provided. The valve is controlled in response to the pressure of the suspension that has been fluidized by the pump and pumped out of the suspension outlet of the pump. A sight glass is disposed between the valve and the ejector.
