ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An elastic detergent bar, useful as a functional article and bath plaything, includes s synthetic organic detergent, which is either an anionic detergent or an amphoteric detergent, gelatin and water. When the synthetic anionic detergent is employed a cross-linking or denatureing agent for the gelatin is also present. The articles made, in bar or cake form, are useful detergents and substantially form-retaining. Although they wear away somewhat during use they retain their general shapes and elasticities for major proportions of their useful lives. They are easily manufactured and molded or otherwise shaped to final form, are moldable to finely figured and detailed shapes and are resistant to breakage during the shipping and use.
