ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention provides a process for increasing the abrasion resistance of a vulcanized elastomeric body, such as a tire, V-belt, conveyor belt, hose, spring element, or floor cover, by changing the state of stress, wherein the elastomeric body is at least partially treated with a swelling agent, i.e. a medium soluble in the elastomer.
