A B S T R A C T The present invention relates to surgical sutures and more particularly to soft elastomeric sutures having unique handling and knot tying characteristics. These objects are achieved by providing an elastomeric non-absorbable surgical suture in a sterile condition with a needle attached to at least one end comprising a monofilament containing intra-polymerized butylenephthalate hard segments and polytetramethylene ether soft segments having the structure more fully described in the disclosure. Fibers used as surgical sutures have been formed from such polymers having the physical properties described in the specification.
