ABSTRACT There is provided a chair having a seat portion and an inflatable member under the seat portion. Enveloped by the inflatable member is means for bringing outside air into the inflatable member to inflate it and thus raise the seat portion. In a preferred form, an electrically powered vacuum device would be located within a bag constituting the inflatable member, and thus the bag itself would contribute to muffling the sound or the electrically powered vacuum device.
