An electret transducer array and fabrication technique are disclosed. The array comprises a foil having a layer of insulating material and a layer of metal in contact therewith. The layer of metal comprises one or more discrete areas ofmetal which define the active areas of one or more transducers in the array. Electrical leads are coupled to the discrete areas of metal. By means of these leads, electrical signals produced by each transducer in response to incident acoustic signals may be accessed. The areas of metal may be formed by selectively removing metal from the foil, or by selective metal deposition. The layer of insulating material is electrostatically charged. The electret transducer array further comprises a porous backplate of sintered metal. The backplate further comprises a rough surface in contact with the layer of insulating material. The backplate serves as a common electrode for transducers of the array. A second backplate is provided positioned adjacent to the metal layer of the foil forming an air gap therewith. The second backplate provides, among other things, shielding from stray electromagnetic fields.

L'invention concerne un réseau de transducteurs à électret et la technique de fabrication de celui-ci. Le réseau comporte une feuille constituée d'une couche isolante et d'un tracé de métal conducteur. Le tracé de métal conducteur comporte une ou plusieurs zones discrètes qui déterminent les zones d'activité d'un ou de plusieurs transducteurs du réseau. Des conducteurs électriques sont reliés aux zones discrètes de métal. Par l'intermédiaire de ces fils, accès est donné aux signaux électriques produits par chaque transducteur en réaction aux signaux acoustiques incidents. Le tracé conducteur peut être formé par enlèvement de métal sur la feuille ou par dépôt sélectif de métal sur la feuille. La couche de matériau isolant est chargée électrostatiquement. Le réseau de transducteurs à électret comporte en outre une plaquette d'appui poreuse en métal fritté. Cette plaquette présente une surface rugueuse qui est en contact avec la couche de matériau isolant. La plaquette sert d'électrode commune aux transducteurs du réseau. Une deuxième plaquette est positionnée tout près de la couche de métal conducteur, formant ainsi une couche d'air. Cette deuxième plaquette assure, entre autres choses, la protection du réseau contre les champs électromagnétiques vagabonds.
