An electric breast pump utilizes an electric motor to drive a piston vacuum pump to draw a negative pressure or suction up to 250mm Hg at a flexible collapsible breast cup. The suction cycles between the set maximum and atmospheric pressure are performed under the control of a magnetic valve that is opened and closed by a vacuum sensor. The valve opens and closes a bypass to atmosphere. The speed of the electric motor can be selectively varied to increase the frequency of the suction cycles, which can vary between 20 to 44 cycles per minute. The breast cup collapses during a part of each cycle to simulate the peristaltic action of a suckling infant.

L'invention concerne une pompe tire-lait utilisant un moteur électrique pour entraîner une pompe à vide à piston en vue d'obtenir une pression négative ou aspiration jusqu'à 250 mm de Hg au niveau d'une tétine souple et compressible. Les cycles d'aspiration entre un maximum fixé et la pression atmosphérique s'effectuent sous la commande d'une vanne électromagnétique qui est ouverte et fermée par un capteur de dépression. Cette vanne ouvre et ferme une dérivation vers l'atmosphère. On peut faire varier la vitesse du moteur électrique de manière sélective en vue d'augmenter la fréquence des cycles d'aspiration, qui peut varier de 20 à 44 cycles par minute. La tétine se contracte lors d'une partie de chaque cycle afin de simuler l'action péristaltique d'un enfant qui tète.
