ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electric desk lamp or the like has a boom-type arm (2) that extends upwards from a base (1) and has a light (3) at its free end. The boom arm (2) is displacable to a limited extent in all directions. To simplify manipulation of the light, the boom arm (2) consists of at least three equal rods (4) that are parallel to each other; all of the rods (4)are hinged onto the base (1) and the light (3) so as to be pivotable through a spheri- cal range of movement. Connections prevent the rods (4) from twisting relative to each other.
