ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Apparatus for detecting electric fields and providing an indication of their magnitude includes a glass bulb containing a gas such as neon. When the bulb is placed in a time varying electric field, pulses of electromagnetic radiation are generated within the bulb. The number of pulses is proportional to the magnitude of the variation in the electric field. The pulses are transmitted by a fibre optic bundle to detection and recording apparatus to provide an indication of the magnitude. Alternatively the bulb may be located adjacent a photographic film in a dosimeter and the radiation used to expose the film and provide an indication of the exposure of the wearer of the dosimeter to such fields.
