ABSTRACT: An electric infra-red incandescent lamp with a he???tically sealed tubular lamp envelope whose two ends are sealed by a pinch seal. Each pinch seal contains a current lead through which is coupled to a current supply conductor outside the seal and the pinch seal along with the coupling area are surrounded by a metal sleeve serving as a lamp cap. A current means of readily heat-conducting material is provided between the seal and the wall of the sleeve and a member of electrically insulating material is incorporated in the sleeve at its end remote from the lamp envelope. This member surrounds the coupling area and closes the passage between the sleeve and the pinch seal to electrically insulate the sleeve from the current lead through and supply conductor. Also a luminaire for this lamp is provided which contains leaf spring engaging the flat sides of each lamp cap so as to form a heat sink.
