ABSTRACT An electric kettle consists of a unitary polypropylene upper portion to which a soft copper metal bottom is attached by a leak-proof joint. The joint is formed by forming the copper bottom around a downwardly extending cylindrical lip of the upper portion, the bottom having inward of the lip a peripheral channel which permits deformation of the bottom without spoiling the seal at the joint.
