ELECTRIC KETTLE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electric kettle is provided with a thermostatic simmer control or boil cut-out wherein the thermostatic element is located above the top of the kettle adjacent the open spout aperture, the kettle being provided with a steam diverter scoop extending into the spout opening, to intercept the uppermost portion of live steam flowing towards the spout opening and divert it rearwardly into heating relation with the sensing bulb of the thermostatic element. The thermostatic element is housed within a fore part of the handle, which also serves to conceal the wires connecting the thermostatic element with the electrical components located in the bottom of the kettle. The arrangement permits the use of a coarsely calibrated thermostat.
