In order to provide an electric machine for preparing beverages comprising a pump (2) for feeding fresh water, a heater (3) for heating the fresh water, a device for feeding milk, a device for feeding air, a mixing device (4) for mixing hot water, water vapor, milk and/or air, as well as a device for dispensing the mixture to a container (6), the mixing device (4) being connected to the water vapor or hot water outlet of the heater (3), and an air supply conduit and a milk supply conduit (5) leading into the mixing device (4), wherein strong and uncontrolled pre- and after--dropping during the milk foam production is prevented, it is proposed that a switching valve (7) is interposed between heater (3) and mixing device (4), said switching valve connecting in a first switching position the exit of the heater (3) with the mixing device (4) and in a second switching position the exit of the heater (3) with a conduit (8) that leads to a second outlet (9).
