An electric machine (10) according to various aspects of the invention includes a transformer (120) having a rotating component (122) for transmitting power from a stationary portion (114) of the machine (10) to a rotating portion (112) of he machine or vice versa. Both the rotating component (122) and a stationary component (124) of he transformer (120) includes a winding (140, 142) wherein the windings (140, 142) are disposed to be magnetically coupled. Current provided to he winding (142) of the stationary component (124) generates a magnetic field, which induces current in the winding (140) of the rotating component (122).
