An electric induction motor can be given a kick start without excessive current drain on the supply by first connecting a unidirectional supply to a winding of the motor to build up a stationary rotor flux and then applying a starting current to another winding of the motor to produce a stator flux at an appropriate angle (between 0° and 180°) with the stationary rotor flux. Once the motor has begun accelerating the normal running supply can be connected. This starting current may be derived from a capacitance which is charged up during the period of establishing the stationary rotor flux.

Il est possible de faire démarrer un moteur électrique à induction par un lanceur au pied, sans appel excessif de courant d'alimentation, en reliant d'abord une alimentation unidirectionnelle à une bobine du moteur, de façon à constituer un flux de rotor stationnaire, puis en appliquant un courant de démarrage à une autre bobine du moteur, de façon à produire un flux de stator formant un angle approprié (compris entre 0 et 180 DEG ) avec le flux de rotor stationnaire. Une fois que le moteur a commencé à accélérer, l'alimentation de marche normale peut être connectée. Ce courant de démarrage peut être dérivé d'une capacité qui se charge durant la période où est produit le flux de rotor stationnaire.
