ABSTRACT An electric motor comprising a stator assembly, a rotor assembly including rotor magnets, a detecting winding assembly and motor housing receiving and relatively positioning stator assembly, rotor assembly and detecting winding assembly. The stator assembly includes the stator windings, a control circuit substrate fixed relative to the stator windings so as to be positioned within the field of the rotor magnets. The stator assembly further including circuitry on the control circuit substrate for controlling driving current supplied to the stator windings and the control circuit which includes on the substrate a rotational position detector. The rotor assembly includes a shaft rotatably journalled in the stator assembly, a magnet casing secured to the shaft and within which rotor magnets are fixed and a detector magnet secured to the shaft. The detecting winding assembly being arranged in face-to-face relationship with the detector magnet for generating motor speed detecting signals by the rotation of the detector magnet. The circuitry controlling the driving current responds to the motor speed detecting signals and the detected rotational position of the rotor magnets.
