Abstract of the Present Invention A series of electric motor units are fabricated including a basic electric motor structure and a separate control housing secured to the end of the motor. A shallow housing and a deep housing are provided for selective connection to the closed end of the motor and creating a series of different motor units for different motor applications. Each motor has the same annular stator and rotor mounted in conventional end bearing plates with shaft projecting from one and the second closing the motor. Each housing is plastic molded with integral standoff brackets for mounting different controls. A drawn metal housing with a separately attached bracket is also described. Openings, which may be formed as breakaway sections in the housing, provide for the power and signal lines. The control components are mounted with the housing to provide a compact separate unit for each particular application. The unit provides convenient fabrication and servicing. The shallow housing provides a simple control unit while the deep housing can be used to upgrade to a more complex electronic control including electronic control and power modules. The housing is formed with an integrated heat sink portion for receiving of heat sensitive components such as power modules.
