ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to an electric steam iron having a metallic sole-plate, a boss and a heating element, cast in the boss. There is a main injection device connected to a water re- servoir for injecting water into a vaporization chamber adjacent to the boss, and an auxiliary injection device for injecting a supplementary amount of water for obtaining an instantaneous sur- plus of steam. The auxiliary injection device empties into the vaporization chamber at a point situated on the boss just above the heating element cast in the boss. The metal of the boss in the area around such point is thin so that the heating element cast in the boss is close thereto. The instantaneous surplus of steam is useful for special kinds of ironing work. This inven- tion has advantages over known devices which have baffled com- partments which are prone to scale deposits.
