ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electric stud welding device in which a charging circuit charges a capacitor bank. A discharge circuit applies the capacitor bank voltage to terminals which are to contact materials to be welded. A switch in the discharge circuit controls the welding current. A safety circuit responds to the resistance between the terminals and disables the switch unless the resistance is low. The safety circuit also latches the charging circuit into an inoperative condition after each weld until high resistance between the terminals has caused the safety circuit to disable the switch.
