AN ELECTRIC SURFACE AREA METER ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electrical method for determining the surface area of particles is disclosed. A solid electrolyte galvanic cell is used to measure the oxygen that is lost from an oxygen-inert gas mixture by physical adsorption on the sam- ple at a low temperature. A direct readout in terms of surface area is obtained. The method is fast, reliable, requires no calibration and is easily automated.
