ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A staple for attaching electrical cables to a wood stud or the like is made with no sharp edges to damage the electrical cable, has barbs to prevent the staple from pulling out of the wood and has stop tabs on both legs to prevent the cable being crushed. The staple comprises a one piece integral U-shaped body having a central crown member with a round cross section, right angle corners at ends of the crown member with two parallel legs extending from the corners terminating at pointed ends, a respective integral stop tab on each of the legs positioned equidistant from the corners to inhibit the staple from being inserted beyond the tabs, and at least one respective barb on each of the legs, between the pointed end and the stop tab to aid in holding an inserted staple in place.
