ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The effect of spurious spikes in an electrical circuit, such as, for example, caused by the passage of incandescent particles within the field of view of a pyrometer, can be reduced by a series arrangement of capacitor and resistor at the output of the circuit. The time constant produced by the capacitor and resistor is selected to give a shallow shape to the output so that the effect of spikes is reduced. This also, however, affects the ability of the circuit to respond rapidly to normal changes in the input. In the present invention, a second series arrangement of capacitor and resistor is connected to the first via a diode that isolates the second series arrangement from the first for short duration input pulses but connects them for longer duration input pulses so that a steeper slope can be achieved at the output.
