-28- ABSTRACT ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR This invention relates generally to modular electrical con- nectors useful, for example, in telephone interconnection systems or the like. Prior art connectors have not proven effective for factil- itating prompt field service connection and reconnection of electrical circuits in selected circuit patterns with a minimum of effort and time by relatively unskilled personnel. The present invention is effective in these respects by providing a first adapter, including an associated set of electrical contacts lesser in number than the contacts of a complementary connector, constructed and arranged for disposition at any preselected one of a predetermined plurality of positions on a support means, for adapting the electrical connector for mating engagement with only selected ones of the fixed contact elements of the complementary electrical connector according to the position of the first adapter on the support means to change the circuit through the connectors. Complementary mounting devices are provided on the support means and the first adapter for releasably securing the first adapter at any one of a number of preselected positions. A second adapter, including an associated set of electrical contacts, is supported by the support means In a fixed position for mating engagement with selected contact elements of a second comple- mentary electrical connector. Conductor wires electrically Inter- connect the associated sets of electrical contacts of the first and second adapters.
