2064884 9120053 PCTABS00008 An electrical connector includes a housing (52) having a recess (54) for receiving an integrated circuit card (10) containing integrated circuit elements (12) and a contact pattern (18). The connector includes flexible electrodes (62) pretensioned to project into the recess (54) and connect with the contact pattern (18) of an inserted card (10). A card-engaging lever (71) is supported for entry into the recess (54) from a side of the housing (52) opposed to the flexible electrodes (62). By biasing the lever (71) toward the electrodes (62), the integrated circuit card (10) is captured therebetween and tensioned from opposing sides thereof to effect electrical connection. By further providing the card (10) with a spring-loaded shutter (38) and a locking slot (36) opposite to the contact pattern (18), the lever (71) engages the locking slot (36) and the card (10) is secured in the recess (54) against the resilient bias of the spring-loaded shutter (38).
