ABSTRACT A safety device for an electrical appliance is dis- closed. The device comprises a locking mechanism which allows access to a pair of electrodes for cleaning or adjustment only when the electric plug for the appliance is inserted through an opening in a protective housing on the electrode assembly. When the protective housing is removed from the electrode assembly, the plug is locked in the opening in the protective housing until the electrode assembly is repositioned in the housing.
