ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A transversal flow machine with a central, disk rotor having ring-shaped pole elements which extend axially outwardly from the disk toward both sides of the housing. These pole elements are radially outside and radially inside surrounded by outside and inside stators which, in turn, feature ring-shaped windings. For the dissipation of heat generated in the stators themselves, the stators are surrounded by ring-shaped cavities through which flows in a peripheral direction a coolant introduced through the housing. The arrangement of the channels is such that a tangential flow is created within the cavities. Also, the housing itself is penetrated by channels, so that the housing is additionally cooled. The housing is also surrounded by an outer casing, enabling the use of the electrical machine under operating conditions requiring a low temperature of the casing surface.
