A ventilation system for maintaining a low-moisture atmosphere around electrical components in a vehicle-mounted electrical component housing that is surrounded by ambient air. The electrical component housing has an air input orifice that allows conditioned air, which has less moisture therein than the ambient air, to enter the housing, and an air exhaust orifice that allows air to be discharged from the housing. An air hose is connected at one end of the electrical component housing and at the opposite end to a conditioned air source, and the air hose carries the conditioned air from the conditioned air source to the housing. The ventilation system provides for a method of maintaining a low-moisture atmosphere around the electrical components and for removing moisture from the vehicle-mounted, electrical component housing. The method includes generating the conditioned air, carrying the conditioned air to the electrical component housing, passing the conditioned air into the electrical component housing and over the electrical components, absorbing moisture from within the electrical housing so the conditioned air becomes moisture- laden air, and exhausting the moisture-laden air out of the electrical componenthousing.
