A b s t r a c t In an electrical surface heating element, there are embedded within a panel of electrically insulating material electrical heating conductors connected to supply conductors, the ends of which enter cavities of the panel open to its top surface, which cavities may be closed by removable covers. within at least one of these cavities of each panel, connecting means for connecting adjacent panels can be positioned. Each cavity leads to the panel edge and is constricted in direction towards the panel edge. By removing the covers, the electrical connecting points of neighboring panels are accessible also after having installed the panels
