Exposing osteoblasts on an electrically conducting nanocomposite, which may be an orthopaedic/dental implant, to electrical stimulation enhances osteoblast proliferation thereon. The electrically conducting nanoscale material includes an electrically conducting nanoscale material and a biocompatible polymer and/or a biocompatible ceramic; carbon nanotubes may be used as the electrically conducting nanoscale material.

Selon l'invention, le fait de soumettre à une stimulation électrique des ostéoblastes placés sur un matériau nanocomposite électroconducteur, lequel peut être une prothèse orthopédique ou un implant dentaire, améliore la prolifération des ostéoblastes sur ledit matériau. Le matériau nanocomposite électroconducteur comprend un matériau électroconducteur d'échelle nanométrique et un polymère biocompatible et/ou une céramique biocompatible. Des nanotubes de carbone peuvent être utilisés en tant que matériau électroconducteur d'échelle nanométrique.
