An anti-reflection coating that is soil resistant and easy to maintain is provided on a transparent substrate (10). Optionally, an adhesion-promoting layer (10A) may be provided between the substrate and anti-reflection coating. The anti-reflection coating comprises a multilayer film (11, 12) having: alternating layers of high and low refractive index materials that are transparent over a wavelength region near 550 nm. The multilayer film is formed by reacting metal with non-stoichiometric amounts of oxygen such that the coating has one or more layers of electrically conductive metal oxide material. The resultant conductivity prevents large static potentials from being developed on the coated substrate. The coating is particularly suited for ophthalmic applications.

L'invention porte sur un revêtement antireflet, résistant à la salissure et facile d'entretien, d'un substrat transparent (10). Au choix, une couche favorisant l'adhésion (10A) peut être prévue entre le substrat et le revêtement antireflet. Le revêtement est constitué d'une pellicule à couches multiples (11, 12) comprenant des couches alternatives de matières transparentes à indice de réfraction élevé et faible se prolongeant sur une région de longueur d'ondes de près de 550 nm. La pellicule en question est créée en faisant réagir un métal avec des quantités non stoechiométriques d'oxygène de sorte que le revêtement se retrouve avec une ou plusieurs couches d'oxyde métallique conducteur. Cette conductivité prévient le développement d'une tension statique importante sur le substrat revêtu. Le revêtement convient plus particulièrement aux applications ophtalmiques.
