Abstract The electrically controllable pressure medium brake exhibits an EP converter (1) to convert an electric brake request signal into a brake pressure. By means of an emergency brake valve (1) this brake pressure in the normal case, in states of emergency a vehicle 1oad-dependent emergency brake pressure 1imited by a limiting valve (12) is fed to the brake cylinder (14). For vehicle load-dependent limiting of the emergency brake pressure, a second EP converter (1a) is provided that generates from a vehicle load-dependent, electric signal a vehicle load-dependent pressure medium pressure, which is stored in a pressure medium store (18) and is fed to the limiting valve (12) in order to control it. The second EP converter (1a) is closed in the currentless state, during a power failure, therefore, the vehicle load-dependent pressure medium pressure remains preserved and the limiting valve (12) can thus continue to limit the emergency brake pressure as a function of the vehicle load. In another embodiment supplemented with a switching valve, only one EP converter can be provided that serves to generate both the brake pressure and the vehicle load-dependent pressure medium pressure.
