ABSTRACT An electrically heated cooking utensil is disclosed with a vessel, which may for example be a frying pan, dutch oven or wok, and a base. The base has a heating plate for supporting the vessel and an electrical heating element associated with the heating plate for heating the bottom surface of the vessel. The vessel is separable from and attachable to the base by means of interengaging elements such that when the bottom of the vessel is placed on the base, movement of the interengaging elements about a vertical axis causes the elements to interlock in such a manner that the vessel and base are interconnected and may be lifted together.
