Applicators for performing electrically-induced thermokeratoplasty including two electrical conducting elements (306, 308) coaxially disposed relative to one another and separated by an electrically insulating element (310) having a selected thickness. At least a portion of each conducting tube is coated with an electrically insulating and thermally conductive material (318), e.g., anodized aluminium, so as to electrically insulate the conducting tubes from corneal tissue upon placement of the applicator on a subjet~s cornea while facilitating extraction of heat from the cornea. A cooling (342, 312, 314, 316) device may be thermally coupled to said insulating element for cooling thereof. They may comprise a vacuum source (340) and passages (336, 338) for applying suction to the corneal tissue. Sensors and a feedback circuit may be provided to determine when a treatment modality has archieved an intended effect.
